Privacy policy
TurboGet is built to keep your data on your computer. This page explains exactly what the app and its browser extensions access, why, and where it goes.
The short version
- TurboGet does not collect, store on any server, sell or share your personal data. There are no accounts, analytics, telemetry, crash reports or ads.
- What the browser extension sees is passed only to the TurboGet app on the same computer.
- Everything TurboGet keeps (download history, settings, logs) stays on your PC, and you can delete it at any time.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy covers the TurboGet desktop application for Windows, the TurboGet browser extensions for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and other Chromium-based browsers, the TurboGet add-on for Firefox and Firefox-based browsers, and the TurboGet pages on this website. TurboGet is developed and published by Shahrukh Sheikh, an individual developer based in India ("I", "me"). You can reach me at ssheikh111@gmail.com.
2. What the browser extension can access, and why
The extension needs broad permissions because a download manager has to recognise downloads and videos on any site you visit. Here is exactly what each permission is used for:
| Permission | What TurboGet uses it for | Where the data goes |
|---|---|---|
| Access to all websites | To recognise videos and downloadable files on whatever site you are using, and to show the "Download with TurboGet" button on videos. | Stays in the browser. Sent to the TurboGet app on your PC only when you start a download. |
webRequest (and webRequestBlocking in Firefox) | To read the type and size of network responses so media and downloads can be recognised, and to read the request headers a download needs. In Firefox, also to stop the browser's own download when TurboGet takes it over. | Kept in memory only while the tab is open. Not saved. |
downloads | To take over browser downloads of the file types you chose, and to cancel the browser's copy. | The download's address and file name go to the TurboGet app on your PC. |
cookies | To send a site's cookies along with a download, so files and videos that need you to be logged in still download. | Only to the TurboGet app on your PC. Never to me or anyone else. |
nativeMessaging | To talk to the TurboGet app installed on your computer. | Local only, between the browser and the app. |
contextMenus / menus | To add "Download with TurboGet" to the right-click menu. | Nothing is stored. |
storage | To remember your takeover settings (on/off, file types, minimum size). | The browser's extension storage on your PC. |
tabs | To know which tab a video belongs to and use the page title as the file name. | Local only. |
The extension's script on web pages only looks for video elements (to place the button) and listens for the browser's DRM signal (to label protected videos). It does not read page text, form fields, passwords or keystrokes, does not record your browsing history, does not change page content apart from its own button, and never contacts any remote server.
3. What the desktop app stores on your computer
The app keeps the following in %LOCALAPPDATA%\TurboGet on your PC. None of it is uploaded anywhere.
- Download history: for each download, its address, the page it came from, the file name and folder, its size and status, and the request headers needed to resume it.
- Cookies for unfinished site downloads: when a video or file from a site needs cookies, they are saved with that download so it can resume later. They are removed when the download finishes or when you delete it. Temporary cookie files handed to the video extractor are deleted as soon as it finishes.
- Settings: your folders, connections, speed limits, takeover rules and similar preferences.
- Logs: technical logs for troubleshooting, which can include download addresses and error messages. They rotate at 2 MB and at most four files are kept.
4. Network connections the app makes
TurboGet connects only to the servers that host the files, videos and pages you choose to download, including those sites' content-delivery networks. For video sites, the bundled extractor contacts that site to find the available streams. Like any browser, the sites you download from can see your IP address.
TurboGet makes no connections to any server of mine: no update checks, no licence checks, no analytics, no crash reports. The browser and the app talk to each other only inside your computer, over native messaging and a local connection on 127.0.0.1 protected by a random token that only your Windows account can read.
5. Sharing and selling
I don't receive your data, so there is nothing to share, sell, rent or use for advertising. No third-party tracking or advertising code is included in the app or the extensions.
6. Children
TurboGet is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
7. Your choices and controls
- Delete any entry, or clear all finished downloads, from the TurboGet window.
- Turn browser download takeover off from the extension's popup or in TurboGet's settings.
- Remove the extension from your browser at any time.
- Uninstall TurboGet from Windows Settings → Apps. The uninstaller asks whether to delete your settings and history as well.
- Delete the logs folder in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\TurboGet\logswhenever you like.
8. Browser store disclosures
- Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons: TurboGet's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data handled by the extension is used only to provide its download feature, stays on your device and is never transferred to me or to third parties.
- Firefox Add-ons (addons.mozilla.org): the add-on declares that it collects no data, because no data leaves your device.
- Opera Add-ons and other stores: the same practices described in this policy apply.
9. This website
The TurboGet pages on shahrukhsheikh.in are static pages. They use no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts. Your light or dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage and never sent anywhere. The download button opens Google Drive, where Google's own privacy policy applies. Like most web servers, the server hosting this site may keep standard access logs (IP address, time and the page requested) for security and operations. They are not used to track or profile visitors.
10. Changes to this policy
If TurboGet's handling of data changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. A change that adds any kind of data collection will be announced in the changelog on the TurboGet page before it ships.
