TurboGet ยท Browser extension
Add TurboGet to your browser
A one-time setup, about a minute per browser. After that, a Download button appears on videos and your downloads go to TurboGet.
Before you start: install the TurboGet app first. The installer connects TurboGet to every supported browser on your PC. The extension is only the bridge between your browser and the app.
Which extension does my browser use?
| Browser | Extension |
|---|---|
| Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Opera GX, Vivaldi, Yandex, Arc, Thorium | The Chromium extension, from the extension folder inside TurboGet |
| Firefox, LibreWolf, Waterfox, Floorp, Zen | The Firefox add-on, signed by Mozilla |
| Safari | Not available. Safari isn't made for Windows. |
Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and other Chromium browsers
- Open your browser's extensions page:
chrome://extensions,edge://extensions,brave://extensions,opera://extensions,vivaldi://extensions,browser://extensions(Yandex) orarc://extensions. - Turn on Developer mode. In Chrome it is at the top right; in Edge it is in the left panel.
- Click Load unpacked and choose this folder:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\TurboGet\extension. You can also open it from the Start menu entry "TurboGet browser extension folder". - Pin TurboGet to the toolbar: click the puzzle icon, then the pin next to TurboGet.
- Click the TurboGet icon. It should say Connected or App starts on demand.
The extension ID should be fpnpohhdnidogongpbjicgeggfoonlij in every Chromium browser. Developer mode is needed only because TurboGet isn't on the Chrome Web Store yet. Some browsers show a reminder about developer-mode extensions; you can close it.
Firefox, LibreWolf, Waterfox, Floorp and Zen
- Download the TurboGet add-on (.xpi) using the browser you want it in. Firefox asks whether to add it; click Add. If the file was saved instead, drag it onto the browser window.
- Click the TurboGet icon in the toolbar. If it shows Allow access, click it. TurboGet needs that to see videos and downloads on the sites you visit.
- The add-on ID is
turboget@shahrukhsheikh.in. You can check it atabout:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox.
The add-on is signed by Mozilla, so it stays installed after restarts and updates.
Using it
- Videos: play a video, move the mouse over it and click Download with TurboGet. Pick a quality in the window that opens.
- Files: just download as usual. Files of the types set in TurboGet's settings (zip, exe, iso, pdf, mp4 and more) are handed to TurboGet automatically.
- Right-click any link, image or video and choose Download with TurboGet.
- Skip TurboGet once: in the toolbar popup, tick "Let the browser handle the next download".
- Turn takeover off: untick "Take over browser downloads" in the popup.
What the popup status means
| Status | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Connected | The extension is talking to the TurboGet app. | Nothing, you're set. |
| App starts on demand | The bridge works and the app is closed. | Nothing. The app opens when you start a download. |
| Not installed | The browser couldn't find TurboGet's bridge. | Run the TurboGet installer again, then restart the browser. |
| DRM badge on the icon | The page plays DRM-protected video. | It can't be downloaded. This is intentional. |
Permissions
The extension asks for access to all websites, downloads, cookies, web requests, native messaging, context menus, storage and tabs. Each one is explained, along with where the data goes, in the privacy policy. In short: nothing leaves your computer.
Removing the extension
Remove it from your browser's extensions page like any other extension. Uninstalling the TurboGet app from Windows Settings also removes its bridge registrations from every browser.
